Australia’s climate finance commitment inadequate for vulnerable Pacific nations

Ahead of Australia’s bid to host COP31 in 2026, Oxfam is calling on the Australian Government to increase its climate finance commitments, especially to support recovery from loss and damage in vulnerable Pacific nations.

New research from Oxfam indicates the number of people impacted by climate disasters in the Pacific region has increased by more than 700% in the last decade.

While recovery efforts in Australia don’t put too much of a dent in our gross domestic product, the same cannot be said for smaller Pacific nations like Vanuatu or Fiji.
