Australia needs harsher laws to reduce deforestation rates, research finds

Recent research from the University of Queensland found Australia’s environmental laws are failing to stop high rates of land clearing for agriculture, development, and mining. 

The data collected between 2014 and 2021, revealed that two-thirds of the clearing was potentially non-compliant with at least one applicable law.
