The YES campaign took a blow over the weekend with majority of Australia voting NO in the Voice to Parliament referendum.
And now politicians are deciding what happens next.
This morning Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles said the Federal government will look at other ways to close the gap for Indigenous Australians.
Opposition Leader and prominent No campaigner, Peter Dutton agreed all Australians wanted to help Indigenous people but the Voice was not the right method.
He wants an audit into spending on Indigenous affairs and a Royal Commission into child sexual abuse in Indigenous communities.
Indigenous leaders are calling for truth-telling and treaty in the wake of the Voice’s defeat. The Wire’s contributor from Ngaarda Media Tangiora Hinaki spoke to Noongar leader, Mervyn Eades, about his thoughts on the outcome.
