Government faces gambling backlash

The Federal Government’s proposal to put a cap on gambling ads rather than an outright ban has sparked criticisms from advocates, cross bench and even within it’s own party ranks.

A report commissioned by a parliamentary committee chaired by late Labor MP Peta Murphy recommended gambling ads to be banned over a period of 3 years.

Experts believe that bans are key, and state gambling ads normalise the practice of gambling.
