Controversial plans to restructure South Australia’s Museum could have “alarming” impacts on science and broader society according to a member of the science community.
While contention continues over proposals, The Statutory Authorities Review Committee have voted to establish their own inquiry into the restructure after a similar move was voted down by The Upper House earlier this month.
Redevelopment remains on hold amid a Premier’s Review announced in April after fierce community backlash over changes announced as a “reimagining” by Museum directorial staff. Proposed plans could see 27 jobs cut from research collections and replaced with 22 curatorial positions.
The Wire reached out to SA Museum and South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet for further comment.
