The Merimbula Chamber of Commerce are planning to run Twilight Markets in town this summer. The markets are designed to create a festive holiday feel by activating the Beach Street area of Merimbula during the holiday period.
This concept was identified at the Merimbula Town Summit as a way of bringing life back in to town at a time when there isn’t much happening. Most retail businesses close early on Saturday afternoons and there is little to do and offer for visitors after the shops close.
2SEA Southern Community Radio will be front and centre broadcasting LIVE from 3pm to 6pm each Market day on 104.7FM
Event Coordinator Graeme Wykes who has run markets for the Chamber in the past says, “This is a great initiative by the Chamber and I will be working with them, with the support of Merimbula Tourism and local volunteers to try and ensure the events are a success. So far we have had a lot of interest from stall holders and we have got a really eclectic mix, but we still have room for few more and we would like to have a few food trucks as well.”
The Markets will be held from 4pm – 8pm on Beach St between Twyford Hall and the Waterfront café with road closures at Market St and Alice St. The first event will be on Monday 27 December followed by Saturday 8, 15 and 22 January 2022
There will also be some live entertainment presented by The Twyford, funded by a grant from Live Music Australia – an Australian Government initiative – to support original Australian live music in our region in 2022 .
This is another great community collaboration between a number of organisations with funding from different sources. It just goes to show the great work that our community organistions do in creating events and activities for our town.
